Explorer View : Knowledge Base

Search Knowledge Base

Supported File Types.

Explorer View will preview more than 300 file types. Explorer View reads the file contents (not the extension) to determine the type of file.

Explorer View has been designed so that if you do not have the authoring application for a file installed Explorer View will still enable the preview. Once the file type has been identified Explorer View then selects it appropriate viewing engine to display the file.

In some instances more than one preview engine is available to be used. A user can select then default preview engine from the drop down menu in the tool bar.

In some cases, such as with Power Point and Adobe PDF, the user is also provided the opportunity to select the authoring application, if it is installed, as the viewer.

If Explorer View does not recognize the file type to be previewed it will default to a text or hexadecimal view. To add a file type to the Explorer View preview engine, please contact us using the support link on this page and send us three sample files. We will then be able to determine if your file type can be added.
