Explorer View for Windows Explorer - A Quick Start Guide

Explorer View is integrated with Windows Explorer. It allows the instant preview of Documents, Graphics, Music & Movies directly in Windows Explorer. You can:

  • Turn Explorer View on and off using a button in the Windows Explorer Tool bar, or press the "F8" key.
  • Open multiple instances of Explorer View at any one time.
  • Preview files using Windows Explorer, even if you don't have the creating application installed.
  • Zoom, rotate, print directly from Windows Explorer.
  • Play music, watch videos, read documents, all from inside Windows Explorer.
  • Copy and paste directly from the Windows Explorer preview into other applications.
  • Detach the Explorer View™ preview window and view pictures or play movies in full screen.

Start Windows Explorer by:

Start Windows Explorer the way you normally would: e.g.

  • Right click on the "Start" button and select "Explore"; or
  • Press the Windows button on the keyboard and at the same time press the "E" button.

or, to open Windows Explorer with the Explorer View preview window already open;

  • Click on the Explorer View shortcut button in the task bar (the task bar is usually situated in the bottom right hand corner of your screen); or
  • Click on the Explorer View desktop icon; or
  • Use the Windows START > PROGRAM FILES > EXPLORER VIEW option.

To Open and Close the Explorer View Preview Window

  • Press the "F8" Key to Open and Close the Explorer View Window; or,
  • Press the Explorer View button in the Windows Explorer Toolbar, as shown below (this button does not display under Vista):

Once you have the Explorer View Preview Window open, click on a file and the file you have selected will then display:
