Troubleshooting Program Errors

Problems with Explorer View for Windows Explorer

Do you have Internet Explorer 7 or higher installed?

Microsoft's Internet Explorer 7 can influence the actions of Windows Explorer, particularly if you are running Vista.

To check Internet Explorer 7 settings, click:

  • Tools > Manage Add-ons - Enable or Disable Add-ons;
  • check "Add-ons Currently Loaded into Internet Explorer;
  • and make sure that "Explorer View by GetData" is enabled.

Explorer View for Windows Explorer does not run. I do not see the Explorer View button in Windows Explorer and I cannot preview files.

Go to the Start menu and select Run, then type regedit in the box and click OK. Browse to the following registry key:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main

There should be a string on the right called "Enable Browser Extensions", if this is set to no, right click on it and select Modify, then change the Value data to yes.

You may need to reboot after making this change.

What other Add-ons do you have installed?

Is it possible that Explorer View is conflicting with other programs? For example, if you see a blue screen with two cogs it is a sign that Explorer View is conflicting with Yahoo Widgets. If you change the Yahoo Widget F8 key assignment, both it and Explorer View should function without any problems.
